On the specs side there are two things to look at: that read IOPS are as high as your budget allows and that the power draw under load is low. Thermal throttling is an issue for continuously sustained loads like mining Snowblossom.

On the systems side multiqueue IO mostly takes care of itself and the relevant bits of the logic are mostly in firmware - firmware upgrades might be relevant. The Windows default NVMe driver has had a bad reputation, but even that seems to be 'not horrible' these days. Buy a large enough well reviewed disk and you'll land north of 50kH/s.

As a new thing on the horizon, the surf miner could help mining move off from random reads onto sequential reads, which would enable cheaper NVMe to enter the top tier for mining Snowblossom. I've yet to get it to work for me - feedback and experiences most welcome.

It'll snow for a long time, sit back, relax and watch the glacier grow.
